How to Have Peace with God

Sin has placed a barrier between God and man. God has provided a way, through Jesus Christ, to remove this barrier so that all can have peace with Him, John 14:6. When we make peace with God, the barrier between man and God is removed, and we can enter into the kingdom of God and have fellowship with God. Peace with God gives us citizenship in God's kingdom; it gives us rights and responsibilities. Peace with God means there is no more hostility between man and God.

No one can win victory over God, but to win the spiritual warfare of this life, we must make peace with God. We can remain hostile to God by ignoring the matter, or we can make peace with God. By making peace with God, we can then, with His help, have victory over our other enemies. God gave His only Son, Jesus Christ, to make peace with God possible. The wages of sin is death, and it is a price we can't afford to pay, the price must be paid, Romans 6:23. However, Jesus paid the price for us by dying on the cross for our sin, making it possible to have peace with God.

So, how does one make peace with God? First, you have to recognize the reason for the hostility that separates God and man. You must first understand that you are a sinner. Sin is a refusal to acknowledge God's authority over your life, disobedience toward God, Romans 3:23. Then Paul tells us in the book of Romans the wages of sin is death, Romans 6:23

A sinner who has not made peace with God has already been judged guilty and condemned, and is only awaiting the day for the sentence to be carried out, John 3:17-18. One must first admit to God that he/she is a sinner. Admitting that you are a sinner is the first step of repentance, which is turning from sin and self, and turning toward God. Repenting isn't regretting and feeling sorry for our sins. We may feel sorry for our sins, but this godly sorrow does not save or make peace with God. Repenting is a change of mind, a change of mind that will turn us away from our sins, and from a life of sin, and turn us to God with a desire to avoid those sins in the future.

Some may think they can do something on their own to make peace with God. Maybe they can obey the Ten Commandments and do good, and thereby have peace with God. The book of Ephesians tells us we can't have peace with God (be saved) by our good works, Ephesians 2:8-9. This plainly tells us that we cannot be saved by our good works, but salvation is a free gift of God, peace with God is a free gift. In addition, Isaiah in Isaiah 64:6 tells us all our good deeds and self efforts to make ourselves righteous are looked upon by God as filthy rags. God provided a way for man to be reconciled to Him, making peace with God, John 3:16. Paul also tells us that while we were sinners, at war with God, Christ died for us, Romans 5:8. There is nothing we can do to make peace with God except to accept what Christ has already done. He gave His life in our place to pay for our sins and made a way for us to have peace with God.

We must believe in Jesus Christ and confess Him as our Lord and Saviour to others, Romans 10:9-11. By believing in your heart that God rasied Christ from the dead and confessing Christ with your mouth (telling others what you have done), you can have peace with God. After you have accepted Christ as your Saviour, be sure to share your decision with another person. Your next step is to find a local Church and be baptized.

You can accept Jesus as your saviour right now. If you truly believe that Jesus died for your sins, was buried, and three days later rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4), and are determined to turn away from your life of sin and turn to God, then say a prayer just now and tell Him.
