Christianity claims that one gets to heaven only through Jesus Christ. Why does Christianity make that claim? There are many places in the Bible that say that Jesus is the only way. It is not an opinion of any Christian, it is a fact taught in the Bible itself. For example, in the book of Acts 4:12, the Bible tells us, referring to Jesus, that there is no other name given under heaven by which we must be saved. Jesus also says in John 14:6 that He is the way to heaven and no one can go to the Father except through Him. Jesus also said in John 10:9 that He is the door and if we come through Him, we will be saved.
Some believe that, "all values, beliefs, lifestyles, and truth claims are equal." This means that everyone has an equal right to his beliefs and all beliefs are equal. In other words, they believe that all religions are true and all religions are valid paths to heaven. This goes further than respecting other's views, and demands praise and approval of that person's belief. Should Christians therefore agree that all religious beliefs are true, or equal? The answer is no! All religions are not true nor are they equal. Christianity has the only living Saviour, and Christianity teaches one way to heaven and that is only through Jesus Christ. By using our reasoning ability and the law of non-contradiction we can arrive at the truth. So let's take a look at just two examples.
Let's first take a look at three beliefs and compare them. Pantheism teaches that God is in everything and everyone. Monotheism teaches there is only one God, and He is an infinite, personal being who exists outside of material creation. Polytheism teaches there are many Gods. Obviously these three views cannot all be true; if one is true the others must be false. If monotheism is true, and it is, then all religions that teach pantheism or polytheism are false.
Secondly, let's take a look at mankind's destination after death. Christianity says that on death man goes to either heaven or hell. Eastern religions say that on death, they will be reincarnated. Both cannot be true. If one is true, the other must be false. This is not being arrogant, it is being truthful. Even so, many media commentators today accuse Christians of being arrogant and/or intolerant if they believe that Jesus is the only way. That Jesus is the only way to heaven is not left to the opinions of media commentators, Christians, or anyone else, it is a fact clearly taught in God's Word, our Holy Bible.
Some believe that we are all on different paths to the same destination. Therefore it does not matter which religion we have. This disagrees with Christianity, which teaches there are two paths, or roads, each going to two vastly different destinations. Matthew 7:13-14 tells us of the broad road to hell and the narrow road to heaven. The narrow way is through Jesus Christ and is the only way to heaven. Jesus is the door to the narrow path, and we can only be saved through Him, John 10:9. One would need to be cautious if they believe the same way the majority of people do in that all roads lead to heaven. Christ also said the majority of people are on the broad road to hell and there are only a few on the narrow road to heaven, Matthew 7:13-14. We really need to believe what the Bible teaches and not man. Jesus continues on in the following verses to tell us to beware of false teachers. Twenty four books of the twenty seven books in the New Testament warn of false teachers, so any and all teaching must be compared to what the Bible says. There are ways that seem right to man but they are the ways of death, Proverbs 16:25.
Despite the twisting of definitions, the Bible itself leaves no room for doubt or confusion about the fact that Jesus is the only way to heaven.
